Hugh: One of the key states in this election is Kentucky, not because of its 8 electoral votes, but because as it goes, the nation as a whole tends to go. The Bluegrass State has long been a bellwether state in this regard, seldom voting for the loser in the presidential race.

This story just came out today:

"A new poll shows Democrat Al Gore ahead of Republican George W. Bush in Kentucky in the presidential race.

"Gore outpaced Bush 45 percent to 39 percent, with Ralph Nader garnering 2 percent of the vote in surveys conducted by American Research Group of Manchester, N.H."

Story goes on to say race far from over, with 13 percent of the voters remaining undecided, etc. But still, this is the first time that any poll has put Gore ahead of Bush in Kentucky.
