Hi Nancy just thought I would drop you a note before I head out. What I read from M.L. is indefensible I won't try to defend something so obviously wrong. The question of the reformation however is another matter. Although M.L. was a major figure in the reformation, the doctrinal matters that led to it did not rest on him alone. The question must be, are the doctrines of the reformers in line with Scripture? I believe for the most part they are, especially concerning salvation. I would personally have no trouble with all five points of Calvinism. I shouldn't say that; many of the implications of a completely sovereign God give me great difficulty but I am driven by the force of Scripture to accept them. Other areas such as preterisim, and the permanent replacement of Israel by the Church, I fail to find enough scriptural warrant for. Not that there is none but on balance I don't see enough to convince me. The reformers themselves said that the reforms were not static but every doctrine must be held up to the light of Scripture. This has not always been done and is the main reason that most of the mainline denominations have slipped into apostasy. Sometimes there really is a baby in the bathwater. I would urge you not to let your legitimate outrage at the foibles (sins) of M.L. cloud your judgement as to the validity of the doctrine of Salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. This was the gospel of Paul and indeed all of the Apostles. There can only be one Gospel.
Have to go, the fish are calling.
God bless you and your family.
Greg
