I viewed the SPR as a hostage that we had...as long as our hostage is alive (not releasing the SPR), we have a bargaining chip. Now that we shot our hostage in the head (releasing the SPR), we are even more vulnerable to OPEC shenanigans.

Of course, I didn't develop this thought on my own.
