We promote a LOT OF THINGS in this society Darleen..

But that doesn't mean I have to go out and buy them if I haven't got the means to pay for them..

As for elderly not being about to buy drugs... that is what medicare is for... And if you're telling me that a patient who needs certain prescription drugs in order to survive can't get them, I would like to see some documented specific examples...

As we all know, drugs are prescribed by doctors... so if that patient can afford to see a doctor, I can hardly expect that a doctor would prescribe something they require but can't pay for...

There are programs available for medical assistance... Private drug manufacturers even have their own assistance programs that make their drugs available for those who truly can't afford them... And the patient's doctor should be aware of them..

As for younger people who can't make more than $15,000 a year, I firmly believe that the best investment we can make is in educating and training our people so that they can be more productive...

I met a guy the other night who works in a parking garage... He was reading some work of philosophy and I asked him if he was a college student (he was about 30 years old).... He said no... I then asked him if this was his second job... and he said no... He just enjoyed the available time he and had adjusted his standard of living in order to survive on the 20K per year he made there...

Why should I have much sympathy for someone like that?? The guy OBVIOUSLY had what it takes to make more money, but he was content not to... (and it wasn't like he was working there just to obtain the title on his resume "garage attendant"..).. He was not overtly suffering from any mental illness I could discern..

In fact, he reminded me of this "professional college student" I knew once... The guy had 6 college degrees but had never once held a job that paid over 15K a year...(this was some 10 years ago)... And on top of that, all of his degrees were in social or soft sciences, not biology, physics, or business...

So someday these guys is going to want to retire... and we're going to have to pay them for their unwillingness to work as hard as we had to...

As far as I'm concerned.. if all they made was poverty level during their lives (because they was unwilling to strive), then they can live at poverty level in their retirement...

It's a cold hard reality, but one which each of us is facing on a daily basis...

Why should the unmotivated folks get special treatment??

Regards,

Ron
