In order to set up a Natural Gas Reserve (NGR), the US government is asking all Americans to eat beans at least twice a day.

Collection points for the anticipated individually generated gas are being planned and service station rest rooms are envisioned as a possible choice for modification into collection points. This way the NGR could be efficiently available for new fuel cell vehicles with a minimum of distribution facilities required. In order to maintain system operating pressures, however, Americans may in the future be asked to eat beans for breakfast also.

AL Gore was heard to state, in a off the record remark to an aide, that he had invented the NGR to "show OPEC we are not just farting around [with our energy policy]".

In related news, Beano and related products were declared controlled substances by the government and will be issued only with a prescription.

Legislation was also introduced in Congress to make uncontrolled personal venting of gas a misdemeanor.
A related proposal, to install methane detectors in public places and detectors capable of remote scanning in police patrol cars, was also introduced to aid enforcement of the uncontrolled personal venting statue.
