Bill and Harry, the Kyocera's phone should be cdma. Palm and Hand are pushing out GSM phones first maybe for the following reasons :

1. Licensing fees for GSM is lower (?), I am not sure, or is licensing fee necessary at all for GSM (?), whereas qcom will charge you an arm and a leg to use cdma.

2. 70-80 % of the world is GSM, so why not attack the market with critical mass first.

3. People in countries like HK, European, Japan, China and the likes are all gadget freaks - so they will embrace a hybrid phone/pda much more readily than in the US. People there are already very accustom to using headphones and mikes for their cell-phones so it's nothing new to them. In the States, people for fear of brain tumors are also starting to use headphones for cell communications.

4. By jumping to GSM phone directly, Palm and Hand avoid having to build out a elaboriously complicated physical palm.net network that requires the cooperation of some giant carriers and most probably endless governmental involvements. I think it would be close to impossible to build out a physical Palm.net network all over Europe or all over Asia.

Just my wild guesses at this time - but it's definitely very good news two days before earning report. This is also to counter the Hand VisorPhone announcement scheduled for the coming Monday,

Mang
