OT: You're not the first to suggest that over the last 20 odd years. But the fact that none of those old coal conversion projects has been resurrected should tell you that the $$ involved are large and the risks high. Same reason the big oil companies aren't exactly rushing around drilling/producing marginal oil - the $$ sunk in would be lost if crude comes down to the mid $20's again.

As before, it would need some fed subsidy or product price guarantee to get any private industry group interested.
