Hi sylvester80; Re the cancellation of the Samurai...

Micron is a bit odd about its plans for the Samurai. First it was just a technology demonstrator, then it was going to be sold to motherboard makers, then it was cancelled (at least in rumor). Just recently it appeared to be on again:

Also recent news that somehow missed my collation and search facilities:

Micron taps Lucent to make Samurai chips Sep 18, 2000
The U.S. DRAM maker initially developed Samurai to spur the market transition to DDR memory chips, which is Micron's core business. However, Micron, Boise, Idaho, plans to sell the high-end Samurai for Advanced Micro Devices Inc.'s Athlon processors, and possibly for Intel Corp. processors.
techweb.com

I don't know whether Micron will sell the Samurai or not, but the current indications, per the VIA chipset announcement article, are that it will not. There are a couple dozen DDR chipsets in development, unless the laws of statistics and engineering design are completely violated, many of them will not see the light of day. But it is also now inevitable that some of them are going to go into production.

All this doesn't have anything to do with the validity of my question to Tenchusatsu. The question was about the relative performance of DDR and RDRAM on an apples to apples CPU comparison.

The answer: DDR cleaned RDRAM's clock. You can verify this with Tenchusatsu if you wish, or go back and read his quite reasonable answer to my post.
