Scott, as combjelly pointed out in Message 14441804, Texas is actually a weak governor state. My understanding is that Duh is somewhat constrained in what he can do on the matter. If he actually wanted to do anything that is, indications are he's rather proud of the smooth operation of the well-oiled Texas death machine. A background article I found when this subject came up elsewhere: theatlantic.com . Long, and not very pretty. Relatively broad political support for capital punishment is one area where the US is somewhat perversely unique among first world industrial democracies. There are other areas where the US is unique, but I don't want to fan the political flames here too much. Cheers, Dan.
