the answer to the question has been knowable for some time.they had various production problems and spun them into- the "cant meet (strong) demand " yarn.they then got into a double/triple order predicament while the pc business stayed lousy, which ,imo, they knew all along.that is the reason they started including stock mkt gains as part of "normal" eps calculations.they were hoping to smooth out any operating shortfalls with wampum.facts are from year end 97 to year end 99 architecture group opeerating revs grew 11% while operating income grew 2%,so what was all the excitement about in the first place?spin, thats all courtesy of andy bryant and craig barret, meanwhile amd is about to precipitate a processor price war by q4...what stinks is management spinning but give them credit ,it got the stock from 25 to 75 so shareholders are still ahead...for the moment.
