Neo, The only time I visited Monticello, was in the early 60s and the remembrance of slaves existence on the plantation was quite evident, to those that could see, and comprehend what they were looking at. The living quarters of slaves were very evident, and the kitchen, which appropriate to the times, was separated from the main house, and the tour guide plainly said that slaves prepared the food. After all, who else could have done it. It was also made evident, that slaves loaded the unique wine conveyor in the fireplace mantle, and stacked the ice in that round, straw lined cellar. I was going to say that all of this was plain enough for any idiot to see, but I guess flopjoke missed it.
