In seriousness, I think he was trying to make a (funny) point. Humor always carries with it the potential to strike nerves; it is supposed to strike a nerve. That is what makes it funny.

You also have to consider the source. Here, the source is not some itinerant wanderer who has come to make trouble, but (like yourself) a regular and valuable contributor to the thread.

All things considered, I think you may be taking this one a little too hard for some reason. JMO .... but I think if we all start doing that it is the first giant step down the road toward Political Correctness.

For myself, I stayed away from Napster for months for the same reasons you did ... it just seems unethical. I have started using it lately (but only right before a shower .. <g>) but try to limit my downloads to things I wouldn't necessarily buy but can't find easily, or sampling things I might consider buying. And I buy as many CD's as ever, maybe more.

I think if the problem of technical access is solved, the solution might be to define "fair use" of this copyrighted material as a limited number of "sampling" downloads .... require a credit/debit card for access but don't charge for the first x number of downloads ..... and then it would serve as a promotional tool and not as a mechanism for ripping off artists and their pimps ..... er, promoters.

A tough issue, though, no doubt.....

P.S. Are you rooting for Michigan or Illinois tonite???
