Tejek Re..<<<How did you come to your conclusion based on the statement of mine that you reposted above? Are you into some kind of wacky tobacky, or did you take some of that Demerol I have been recommending?<<<
Ted, have you ever heard the statement, "People in glass houses shouldn't be out throwing stones."
I was asking how you got your conclusion from what I said...they were far apart, and that's all that I was saying.
GW has publicly stated that we should put in a oil exploration and drilling plan, as well as we should be saving the reserve for an emergency, not depleting it. While this plan is limited and not nearly enough, it is a start. Als plan is to waste the reserve now so he can get elected, the hell with the future of the reserve. This is the exact opposite of what you said last week; which is that this country is facing a energy crisis because we are running out of oil and needs to start conserving energy and developing alternate energy. Driving down energy prices, while popular, encourages energy waste and adds to smog.
I have not said that I endorse what Gore did....I don't have enough info to make a decision yet. But frankly I do not like the position we have put ourselves in due to our lack of our progress in both energy conservation and finding new and viable sources.....and we have no excuse for this lack of progress. It embarrassed the hell out of me when Clinton went to Nigeria begging for oil.....and not because of pride. I would rather they require that we each commute once a week by mass transit and thereby cut consumption and then to beg OPEC.
All I see that the release of oil from the reserves doing is buying time and indicating to the OPEC nations that we are not totally dependent. In the meantime, I am hoping we put together an energy conservation program that will be implemented ASAP and then wish for a mild winter. You can't expect any one person or group of people to correct the problem overnite. Its too bad.<<
I don't expect the problem to correct itself overnight, and neither do you. But we will have to face the problem of replacing cheap oil eventually. A leader who always chooses the easy way out isn't going to get it done.
I don't believe Gore takes the easy way out.
But that is the trouble with the election process, as a candidate who tells the truth never gets elected. Its is too bad as I expect this country, without effective leadership, to become a mediocre country.
In some ways we are very mediocre. You can not expect a leader to take the hard way and tell the truth if we don't expect that of ourselves. And lately, its seems denial is the dominent theme.
PS, I apologize to Scumbria for misspelling his name. I hope he doesn't think I was trying to imitate Paul, and intentionally misspelling his name.
My apologies on this one...I should have PM'd you...I wasn't thinking. Never thought you were hassling Scumbria.
