Art, the point is there is no crisis. The price has gone up simply because of supply and demand. If we're that concerned about the cost to the consumer, then cut the federal tax on a gallon of gasoline (short term) and show some leadership by opening up the vast reserves America has in Alaska and off the coast of California. Taking a hard look at the recent EPA requirements and their impact would also be a good place to start.

Releasing our emergency energy supply is a political feel good brain-dead solution which will only make our nation more vulnerable to OPEC's whims in the future. It's not a solution, because it doesn't get at the root cause of the problem. The problem is we don't have enough supply, to meet the energy requirements of our nation at the price we deem necessary for our economic health.

The Clinton/Gore solution is totally designed to ease the price due to the election coming up. It's a short term charade of a solution, which only expands the root cause of the problem long term. One year from now, if we have a real energy emergency, we'll deeply regret this election year theatrics. Gore/Clinton are sacrificing our nations energy contingency plan in order to win a few votes.

It's a pathetic election year stunt, and we should call a spade-a-spade.

Someone needs to show real leadership as it relates to our energy policy. Clinton/Gore have not led, perhaps Bush will.
