Indeed Yank-bashing Europeans are just too happy to jettison a US software in favor of a home-made alternative (Linux is a Finnish success story). Now, if Microsoft is such a loser then tell me why they're all ganging up against him?? If you ask me, I think it's because Mr Gates crossed the "forbidden line", that is, the massmedia/content line and therefore entered the turf of the Disneys and the TimeWarners....
So long as Gates was just a brilliant computer nerd who stuck to OS, desktop sofwtare, and web-browsers, it was allright for US media-moguls --they could still carve up the manufacturing of US public opinion between themselves.... But suddenly they felt Bill Gates' breath on their necks... Uh ho! The richest guy around could just steal all the eyeballs away from traditional media since he already owns the software pipes (Windows, Explorer,...). The snag is, even the brightest star of the US establishment, Mr William Gates III, is somehow considered as a loose canon by the media moguls....
As regards Bill Gates "playing the minority card", what's wrong with that?? I mean, face it QPick: we're ALL just a card in the hands of corporate America/Europe/etc. That's why some WASPs get so angry --they still want to be THE ONLY cards their bosses can play with.... Blacks, Latinos, gays, Buddhists, Muslims, Orthodox Jews, women, disabled people, etc., etc. --so many cards indeed! |
