Michael,

1)If you do not need DDR, why do an interface to it?

It is a marketing bullet. DDR is the sexy new thing, and everyone has to have it to compete. In contrast, DRDRAM would be the kiss of death to almost any new product. That is why Timna and probably Majic are delayed.

If there is no impact to you if DDR does not exist why bother?

It is an essential marketing bullet. If DDR succeeds, any new design *MUST* have it to be competitive.

If DDR is so compatible with SDRAM why is an interface needed at all?

It is similar, but obviously not the same.

How many versions of this interface are you working on, since there seems to be differences between DDR from company A and DDR from company B?

Memory controller design is very important IP for competitiveness. There is a lot of computer science which goes into this field.

Are you working on an interface to RDRAM - because you should be if you are not?

No. For the reasons stated above.
