Intel is trying to enter new markets and will likely be able to do so. But what other market is there that will allow Intel to sell new version chips for $700-$1,000 each in 100k quantities? Intel has enjoyed huge success as the Wintel desktop convention (monopoly) raced forward. The fact is that Intel will find it increasingly difficult to hold onto both high margins and market share. With, as has been pointed out by others, Intel trading at about twice the ten year "norm" for traditional valuations, slowing growth will have a profound continuing effect on the stock price - expect earnings contraction going forward.

However, Intel has probably dropped enough to cause a short term technical bounce within the next week or two regardless of where the market decides to adjust the long term valuations.
