Today we say they were all crazy, and the silly distinctions are completely irrelevant. Well, to me, the Canadians are all socialist pinkos, and for Scott to claim that he represents the moderate or centrist view of the pinkos seems the same to me as the slight differences between the inquisitionists.

Joe,

I think you must be very conservative. Scott's views seem moderate to me. In fact Canada's form of socialism is very mild to me.

PS: All my friends who lived in Montreal escaped to Toronto, because if socialism is not enough, Quebec is run by socialists who happen to be very nationalistic and intolerant to minorities. Once vibrant city of Montreal - one of my favorite places to visit on this continent is turning into a very dull place.

I agree that Montréal has lost some of its stature but to blame it on socialism, I think is a bit unfair. Its my opinion that the Canadian gov't has been too indulgent with the Québecois and they have become much like spoiled children. From what I understand, the Québecois have made life unpleasant for the Canadian anglophiles living in Montréal. Consequently many of the non French Canadians have moved their businesses to Toronto. I think its unfortunate that this has happened but I think its unfair to blame socialism.

It would be the equivalent of blaming conservatism for the lack of progress in Spain earlier this century. I understand that Spain was a backward, unhappy place under Franco's rule...I blame that on Franco and his followers, and not on conservatism.

BTW I was in Spain about 6 years ago....I had one of the best times I have ever had in Europe. Barceloña and Madrid were incredible...I had a lot of fun. And the people were awesome...warm and generous to a fault. And, of course, the country has made extraordinary economic progress.....many were surprised the it was ready to enter the Union on schedule.
