[Lucent/Ariel]

John,

<<Thousands of customers used digital subscriber line technology even before its
vogue resurgence last year. David Sobin was one of those users in New Jersey--in
fact, he and his AT&T Network Systems team designed and built the equipment.
A decade later, Sobin and several other defectors from AT&T Network Systems,
now Lucent Technologies, have joined Ariel Corp. and will introduce a line of DSL
products at Supercomm '97 in New Orleans.
internettelephony.com;

This is major news and should be noted. I'm somewhat surprised by the
teaming with a relativeley "unknown". Ariel utlize's Globespan's CAP technology.
I can only imgaine that prefering to work with another NJ based company
was a strong consideration.

Obviously, Lucent will be the driving marketing force around the offer and
has very significant relationships with RBOC's to leverage.

Maybe I'm over reacting...but this is not good news. I'm not sure of
availability or Lucent's intent to be a major ADSL player. You may
remember that Rich Mcginn (CEO ) thought wireless will be the technology
goibg forward.

I would really appreciate others thoughts here.

Bob
