U.S. stocks up as lower oil, stable euro soothe nerves

(Updates to midday)
By Elizabeth Lazarowitz
NEW YORK, Sept 25 (Reuters) - Stocks clung to modest gains
in midday trading on Monday as investors bet a more stable euro
currency and lower oil prices would help bolster Corporate
America's earnings.
"The stock market is feeling some relief that the oil
problem and the euro problem are being addressed, so what we're
seeing is some cautious bargain hunting," said Peter Cardillo,
director of research at Westfalia Investments.
High-tech shares also managed to shrug off earnings worries
after news that computer chip giant Intel Corp. <INTC.O> faces
disappointing third-quarter revenues sent stocks spiraling
lower on Friday, analysts said.
