The activities of the local bullion dealers is also somewhat interesting. They usually hold big short positions, with little or no longs. But recently they have been buying the June/Aug 2001 contract with "unusual vigor"......

I just checked the data for Sept. 22, and Sumitomo, Mitsubishi, Nissho Iwai and Mitsui were all buying these contracts.

Now, Aug. 2001 is a long ways off, but Tocom silver is VERY illiquid, and the only way for them to buy/sell is in the farthest out contracts.
