Rage Chief Worried About PlayStation Supply

LONDON (Reuters) - The man behind British computer games publisher and developer Rage Software Plc (RGE.L) has said he is worried that Sony Corp (6758.T) will not meet Christmas demand for its new PlayStation 2 games console, the Times newspaper said on Tuesday.

Paul Finnegan said that supply problems, combined with the delay in launching Microsoft's (NasdaqNM:MSFT - news) rival Xbox next autumn, could lead to another quiet six months, before business takes off again in late 2001.

Many shops have already taken pre-orders for PlayStation 2 and industry analysts expect 10 million of the high-tech consoles to be sold worldwide by March 2001, the Times said.

Rage has developed one of the key games for PlayStation 2, called ``Wild, Wild Racing''.

On Monday, Rage posted a pre-tax loss of 2.6 million pounds ($3.78 million) in the year to June 30, compared with a profit of 3.1 million in the previous year.
