Alcatel Launches"Go USA"Program 250 European Alcatel Engineers to
Bring Talents to USA
Paris, September 26, 2000 - Alcatel has introduced a program that will allow 250 of its
engineers to work at the company's facilities in the US. This program, called 'Go USA', allows
the engineers to support major internet related projects in the USA and to broaden the
technology exchange among all of Alcatel's sites. This initiative helps fulfill Alcatel's
professional needs in the US, in a very tight job market. The program provides a motivational
push for the recruitment of top engineers in Europe and Asia by creating further demand.

More than one thousand engineers from 30 different countries (mainly France, Spain, Belgium
and Germany) have applied to Go USA. Because of the great response to the program, Alcatel
has integrated it into its policy of mobility.

All of Alcatel's business sectors are expanding in the US, which is Alcatel's single largest
market. With its recent acquisitions, Alcatel has steadily gained market share and
demonstrated its commitment to developing the best technology in telecommunications fields
such as transmission, internet access (ADSL), applications, optics and enterprise solutions.
Continuing to grow in the US is one of Alcatel's strategic goals

Serge Tchuruk, Chairman and CEO of Alcatel, says: "Providing such a great number of
our engineers the opportunity to bring their skills to our US operations not
only helps us to fulfill Alcatel's direct needs for technical skills, but also
strengthens synergies within Alcatel's technical community. This program
represents a unique opportunity for engineers to work on major American
projects, while sharing their expertise and reinforcing the team spirit within the
Alcatel community."

All engineers who have worked for Alcatel for at least one year are eligible to participate in
the program. Alcatel has developed a specific mobility contract with US conditions (base
salary, stock options), aid for moving expenses and others relocation costs, as well as the
assurance of a position upon return to Europe. Most of the job opportunities are located in
California, Texas, North Carolina, New Hampshire, the state of Washington and in Virginia.

A dedicated intranet site guides applicants through the application process, which includes a
series of interviews.
