CSCO--Cisco mulls assembly line in Israel TEL AVIV, Sept 26 (Reuters) - U.S. networking giant Cisco Systems Inc is examining the possibility of setting up a production line for various components in Israel, the company's Near East regional manager said on Tuesday. ``We are looking into setting up a production line,'' Joseph Gal told Reuters, adding the company has already met government officials to discuss the possibility of receiving a government grant. ``Cisco sees Israel as a place worth looking at,'' Gal added. He noted that with last week's purchase of Hynex, Cisco for the first time has a production facility in Israel. Until now the company had only conducted research and development in Israel. ``We want to leverage the fact that we already have something here,'' Gal said. Hynex makes intelligent access devices for ATM network providers. Gal said he hoped a production line could be up and running within a year as the company's planning stage usually covers a 12-month time period. He would not comment on the size of the investment needed for such an assembly line but said it would not require an investment on the magnitude of a chip plant, for example. Cisco has invested some $400 million in Israel to date, acquiring five companies and setting up an R&D centre.
