J-Phone to launch mobile phone with built-in digital camera

--From AOl News. -- Cooters

TOKYO, Sept. 26 (Kyodo) - J-Phone Tokyo, one of nine J-Phone group mobile phone service providers, said Tuesday it will launch a phone model with a built-in digital camera in late October.

The 74-gram device, the first cellular equipped with a camera, will enable users to transmit color photos to other mobile phones.

Sharp Corp. will manufacture the handset, dubbed the ''J-SHO4,'' to provide a range of new services.

In addition to the transmission of 256-color images, users can attach photos to e-mail messages sent via the phone.

Its screen will also allow users to display photos stored in memory, and caller photos can also be set to appear when they dial the device.

The release announcement was made only four days after the DDI Pocket group, another mobile phone service provider, launched a personal handy-phone system (PHS) to which a special miniature digital camera can be connected.

The J-Phone group is affiliated with Japan Telecom Co., an international and long-distance telecom carrier.
