Europe is a mature economy with an aging populous. Uk was in the doldrums for years and they did not absorb another nation. They came out of those doldrums to greet world inflation on their home front.
When you look at a unit of currency like euro which in my opinion was an attempt of a dollar that would equal the us in strength and the obviously ease transactions in europe. People tend to forget that EURO currency is made up of many nations who are all not treading along at the same speed either physically of politically and there are entrance requirements and with this i assume changes of value due to internal conditions within the nations as separate units.
If the conditions of any nation are only affecting their own people you might have slow down of gradual nature and hopefully a build up . In this case everything is augmented because numerous different nations are attempting to act as one and bumps speed through far more rapidly.

Any type of economic slow down in our nation could at this point affect the world. Our dollar appears to be looked upon as the strenght of the world. Be the assumption right or wrong it is currently the one that is held. Any quirk within our own nation and the Euros problems will look like a pimple on the planet compared to the mountain ours would create.
