I agree. One never knows if the scheduled shut down or what has shaken people out of this. In any case, having been a chemical engineer, I well know that process modifications are almost always necessary unless an existing design is being duplicated. Even with that, scaling on heat exchangers, for example, can vary greatly depending on the specific soluble contaminants in the process liquor. In my experience, we made process design modifications after the facility had been in operation for years. Since virtually all equipment had spares, we never had to shut down to make said modifications.
