Here's a prime example of firearms stupidity:

In the 2000 legislative session of the Kentucky General Assembly, lawmakers passed a bill requiring all police departments throughout the state to sell back to gun dealers at auction all guns confiscated from street hoodlums. No local choice. The money from the sale of said guns then goes to fund a program to buy bulletproof vests for police departments.

The lawmakers ignored the fact that virtually every police department in the state opposed this measure. Also ignored was the fact that virtually all the mid-size and large police departments already have bulletproof vests for officers.

Bottom line: More Saturday night specials are now in circulation because no one had the political fortitude to take on the gun lobby.
