A few more points about the new Kentucky gun law:

1. First auction took place in late August. Newspaper story noted that several gun dealers went away empty-handed because, contrary to your opinion, the quality of weaponry was poor. The auctioned guns included BB guns, cheap handguns, 12-gauge shotguns and even an AK-47. (Nothing like getting more AK-47s out into the public.)

2. Louisville and Lexington police are searching for ways to avoid complying with the new law. So far, neither department has submitted a weapon for auction. A gun does not have to be submitted for auction if used for "educational purposes" (traveling exhibits for schoolchildren and the like) or for spare parts.

3. Following quote from police chief of the Fort Wright, Ky., police department (suburb of Cincinnati):

Chief Dan Kreinest and other police chiefs opposed the new law on the grounds that selling the guns at auction could put them back into the hands of street criminals.
''We are offering to buy vests for police officers,'' Kreinest said. ''By the same token, we're providing the guns that make them even more necessary.''

If you wish me to send you complete stories on this idiot law, I'd be happy to do so.
