To answer your question about leading edge products, let me state I am in the memory businesss so I get to see a lot of competition.

Lets take flash for example. ALSC is developing an 8 Mb flash chip that is supposed to be sampling now. To give you some idea of where the leading edge competition is, Intel is shipping a 128 Mb flash chip. SanDisk has announced a 512Mb NAND flash chip in conjunction with Toshiba.

The chip designs that ALSC has chosen to produce are older generation devices. The irony is that newer generation
devices are being produced at UMC where ALSC could trade their excess fab capacity for rights to those designs today.

Frustrating.
