Hi all; Dramreview updates product listings for DDR and RDRAM! (First update since mid July.)
RDRAM systems: 85 DDR systems: 12 (LOL!)
dramreview.com
The reason the DDR count is so funny is that it was way out of date back in July, now it is September, and a double fist full of new DDR systems are for sale. They managed to find only a single new DDR product since July. I noted in July ( #reply-14052524 ) that they were missing the MS-Starforce GeForce 2 GTS, and the SUMA Platinum GeForce 2GTS 64MB, and they still haven't added them.
The DramReview list: Asus AGP V7700 ATI Radeon Creative Labs 3D Blaster Annihilator 2 Creative Labs 3D Blaster Annihilator Pro ELSA Erazor X2 ELSA Gladiac GeForce2 GTS Guillemot 3D Prophet Guillemot 3D Prophet II GTS Leadtek WinFast GeForce 256 DDR Leadtek WinFast GeForce 2 GTS Absolute Outrageous GeForce 256 DDR
There's a guy who keeps a price list on GeForce boards, and just counting the distinct companies in each category, there are 15 DDR GeForce design wins:
GeForce 256 DDR Asus Creative Labs Guillemot Leadtek Vision Tek
GeForce GTS: Creative Labs eVGA Inno3d Leadtek Vision Tek
GeForce 64MB GTS: Asus Cardex Guillemot Inno3D Leadtek Vision Tek
g256.com
Actually, a lot of the above designs are available in multiple varieties. And g256 didn't include quite a lot of boards available for sale on Yahoo. For instance, instead of 2 ASUS DDR GeForce boards, there are 5 distinct boards, and one of them is already obsolete:
ASUS AGP-V6600 GeForce 256 DDR 64MB (OEM Edition) store.yahoo.com
ASUS AGP-V6800 GeForce256 DDR Pure 32MB ASUS AGP-V6800 GeForce DDR Deluxe 32MB 300MHz asus.com
ASUS AGP-V7700 GeForce2 GTS DDR Deluxe 32MB 332MHz asus.com
ASUS AGP-V7700 GeForce2 GTS DDR Pure 32MB 332MHz asus.com
He missed ATI completely, and they sell 4 DDR graphics board types:
ATI Radeon 32MB DDR ati.com
ATI Radeon 64MB DDR ati.com
ATI Radeon Mac Edition 32MB DDR ati.com
ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 32MB DDR ati.com
[Out of the above 9 DDR boards, DramReview managed to list 2 of them!!! I wonder if he missed the same ratio of boards in the remainder of the alphabet.]
He also left off the two ELSA boards that Dramreview listed, as well as... I may generate a complete list of DDR graphics cards just for the fun of it, and recalculate the corrected design win list ratio.
Pretty obvious that DramReview isn't going to give you a fair total. Hey, that's not a surprise, it's run by a high level ex Rambus employee, undoubtedly with loads of stock from his options package. And did they tell you this? No! They claimed to be giving an unbiased analysis of the issues. And they're still regularly quoted by bulls on this thread. If you missed the intrigue, read here: Rambus' fake website??? #reply-13405397

P.S. Another cool thing to do is to plot the DramReview numbers for RDRAM design wins, and notice how the numbers are climbing at a much lower rate now than before.
P.P.S. I know that none of these individual products is going to sell as much as the PS/2, but hey, DramReview, a pump site for RDRAM, is the one that started this stupid product count earlier this year. |
