Question for the group.

How impossible would be to see dual channel RIMMs in the future? What I'm asking is, are there any technical stoppers in making a RIMM with 2 channels? What I'm thinking here is future desktops with 4 channels, 8 channels etc... without the real estate of more RIMM slots. Is there a reason why dual channel RIMMs would not work? With 256Mbit parts, we are talking 4 chips for a 128MB single channel RIMM right now. How about 4 chips with dual channel 64MB+64MB on a single RIMM, or 4 channel 32+32+32+32 on a single RIMM. Are there any technical reasons why such a thing will not work? If anything, I can see some advantages to doing it that way (ie. less mobo real estate, signal traces will be much shorter etc..). Comments?
