Worldwide Sales Of Broadband Wireless Access Equipment Projected to Reach 15.2 Billion by Year 2010, According to Pioneer Consulting

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- In a major, new, country-
specific study of the broadband wireless access (BWA) market, "Broadband
Wireless Access: LMDS, MMDS and Broadband Wireless Systems Markets Worldwide",
Pioneer Consulting has predicted sizeable market opportunities for BWA
equipment suppliers and service providers. According to the study, worldwide
sales of BWA equipment will grow from $0.2 billion in 2000 to $15.2 billion in
year 2010. Worldwide service revenue during the same period is projected to
increase from $0.1 billion to $35.6 billion.

Total Global BWA Equipment Sales and Service Revenue in $Billions (USD)

2000 2001 2002 2003 2004

Equipment Sales $0.2 $2.0 $3.0 $4.1 $5.4

Service Revenue $0.1 $0.9 $2.1 $3.8 $6.0

2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010

Equipment Sales $6.7 $7.8 $9.1 $10.2 $11.3 $15.2

Service Revenue $8.9 $12.6 $1.0 $22.3 $28.4 $35.6

"Our demand model predicts that the largest opportunities for BWA
equipment sales and service revenues will be in North America, followed by
Europe, Asia Pacific, and Latin America," said Paul Kellett, Senior Analyst --
Broadband Access, at Pioneer. "The demand model also predicts that BWA
technologies operating over 10 GHz will achieve a wider acceptance in world
markets, generally, than BWA technologies below 10 GHz", added Kellett.

Pioneer's latest study forecasted BWA demand by constructing a detailed,
bottoms-up demand model and populated the model with 45 sets of country-
specific input data to yield country-specific results. The model utilized
macro-level socio-economic-demographic data, regulatory data (spectrum
allocations and licensing), and micro-level data pertaining to BWA systems.

In essence, the demand model yielded country-specific forecasts of demand
by sizing addressable markets, estimating market penetration rates and
multiplying the estimated size of the addressable markets by the corresponding
market penetration rates for each of the 45 countries.
