Othello Update:

I finally got a response from James Fishbeck, Investor Relations at ADI, regarding an inquiry on the much anticipated launch of ADI's new Othello chip. Here's his reply, in full:

We still have not been cleared by our customer to announce the details of our first major Othello design win, primarily because of their concerns about their relationships with their other component suppliers. We currently expect to be able to announce the details within 60 days. While Othello will not contribute significantly to ADI's revenues for FY2000, it could be a factor for FY2001. We anticipate that this first Othello customer could be generating revenues for this product at the rate of approximately $75 million annually by mid next year. This first Othello design win is for a GSM handset. We are also close to being able to sample a CDMA version of the product. We also expect that this technology is applicable for other products, such as wireless PDAs. There are other potential design wins for Othello being worked on, but nothing that we can discuss externally yet.

Looks like they may wait til the next CC (Tues. Nov. 14) to drop the Othello bomb. I really liked the wireless PDA reference, too. Othello could be HUGE!!
