Presidential Tracking Poll
Gore and Bush Tied

As of Tuesday morning, the race for President is a dead heat as both George W. Bush and Al Gore attract support from 42% of America's voters. The race has remained fairly constant over the last couple of weeks and major changes are not likely prior to the debates.

A recent Portrait of America survey found that just 49% of American voters plan to watch most of the debates. However, two-thirds of undecided voters will NOT be watching.

Gore leads by 15 points among retired Americans and 7 points among government employees. Bush leads by 11 points among private sector workers.

The election is clearly a referendum on the state of the Union. Among those who say the country is in excellent shape, Gore leads 81% to 8%. Those who think the country is in good shape favor Gore 53% to 34%. Bush leads 55% to 31% among those who say things are just fair in the U.S. today and he leads 75% to 13% among those who believe things are going poorly
