I was fortunate to hold AMAT for the last 13 years, averaging 35% compounded growth throughout that time period, and I hold it still. I am so far ahead of where I would have been, trying to jump in an out, by that VERY simple step, it is not even funny. I never have to decipher what to do with my cash, or holdings, and I never lose sleep during the dips. The long term trend is up for Applied Materials the company, while AMAT the stock can get you dizzy at times.
Yes, Virginia, it does indeed seem like these chips have a future, an everwidening future, and there is no better pure play to capitalize on that trend.
