In an attempt to end a four-day slump, the Phlx Semiconductor Index ($sox: news, chart) is gaining 2.2 percent. In the previous four trading sessions, the SOX had lost 16 percent.

Within the index, Intel (intc: news, chart) is climbing $1.31 to $4.63. The stock is by far the most active component with 30.3 million shares traded. In the last 4 days, INTC had lost 31 percent, exacerbated by a revenue warning late last Thursday. Among other more active components, Motorola (mot: news, chart) is edging 63 cents below Tuesday's NYSE close to $29, Texas Instruments (txn: news, chart) is up $1.19 from its NYSE close to $49.75, Applied Materials (amat: news, chart) is slipping 50 cents to $64.94 and Micron Technology (mu: news, chart) trading $3.25 higher to $52.88.
