'The Powerize 50' for Week of September 25: Lucent Knocks AMD Off Throne; New Entrants Aplenty
RESTON, Va., Sep 27, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- With a whopping 17 new companies on this week's list, the Powerize 50 welcomes a new leader, Lucent Technologies. Lucent, North America's leading maker of telecom equipment and software, pushed aside longtime number one on the list, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), which slipped to number three. The weekly list of the most researched companies at www.powerize.com is derived by tracking the search requests of more than 700,000 individual investors and businesspeople who comprise Powerize's members.

Bank of America, the number one U.S. bank, fell 21 spots to leave the list, the largest drop of any company in this week's Powerize Top 50. Among the week's biggest movers is Barr Laboratories, which premiers at number 22, following news of a stock offering. America Online (AOL) is also new to the list, at number 25, on the heels of an announcement that NTT DoCoMo will buy a 43 percent stake in AOL Japan. Handspring is down 16 spots this week to number 29, just days from a statement that it is working to transform a personal digital assistant (PDA) into a cell phone. Other notable newcomers include Inktomi (39), Ariba (40), Sun Microsystems (41), Oracle (43) and Morgan Stanley Dean Witter (46).

The week's top 10 most researched companies at Powerize: Lucent Technologies (1), Pacific Century Cyberworks (2), Advanced Micro Devices (3), JDS Uniphase (4), Nokia (5), Cisco Systems (6), Pfizer (7), Intel (8), Wal-Mart (9) and Qualcomm (10).
