Scumbria,

Which ones? Do you consider PS2 to be an embedded system???

I don't understand what that has to do with anything. I said "small systems". You used the term "low cost systems" in your last post to me. I consider the PSII a "highly integrated" system. I'm not worried about systems with embedded memory yet. As long as there's an opportunity to sell memory external to the chip, it's an opportunity for RDRAM down the road.

Broadcom is soon to be offering a $15 chip with a high performance MIPS CPU, graphics, and many other features for a sophisticated set top box. This chip will probably need at least 32MB of DRAM. The total system will have to sell under $50. How much do you think the DRAM can cost?

You tell me -- you were the one who originally said $200 worth of RDRAM memory. What does two 128Mb RDRAM chips cost (or what do you think one 256Mb RDRAM chip will cost)? Closer to $200 or $20?

Your $200 statement was pure FUD and BS.

BTW, apparently Panasonic believes RDRAM is just fine for set-top boxes:

Tokyo, Japan and Mountain View, CA - September 13, 2000 - Rambus Inc. today announced that leading Japanese consumer product manufacturers have started shipping High Definition Televisions (HDTV) and digital satellite broadcast Set-Top Boxes (STB)

...

Panasonic started shipping several models of HDTVs and high definition digital satellite broadcast set-top boxes. These systems incorporate a state-of-the-art MPEG2 decoder developed by Matsushita and use Rambus 128Mb RDRAM for high speed decoding memory."
