Pat: My opinion differs with respect to Westell not having its own technology as a disadvantage. Granted Westell does have to pay MOT, which in turn must pay AMTX for the CopperGold solution, but the advantage ends there. AMTX and Westell will get the same widget from MOT to implement into their respective solutions.

Maybe I don't understand what other patents AMTX has on implementing the MOT solution. Does AMTX have certain patents that MOT isn't putting into their solution?

It seems Westell has something that DSC needs with respect to technology that Westell has. Westell may not have patents on that technology, but DSC needs to partner with Westell for the system design for the CO line cards. Westell will have a technology transfer to DSC for this design.

Westell has found a way to distinguish itself... they will offer both CAP and DMT solutions based on the customers requirements. If a customer want CAP... Westell will provide a CAP solution.. If a customer wants a DMT solution... Westell will provide a DMT solution. With respect to AMTX not being able to supply a CAP solution, I view this as a disadvantage of being the patent holder for DMT.

Also with GTE even thinking about a CAP solution points to Westell getting the contract. If GTE implement a DMT solution.. the contract could go to either Westell or AMTX or both. Granted I do give AMTX the better odds if GTE selects DMT, but AMTX gets zero odds if GTE selects CAP... until later.
