ZeeWeed(R) system to provide safe drinking water
ZENON Environmental Inc. (TSE: ZEN, ZEN.A) announced today that it has been selected by the Ontario Clean Water Agency to provide an interim ultrafiltration system to the Town of Walkerton, Ontario.
ZENON's state-of-the-art ZeeWeed(R) ultrafiltration membrane technology will be part of a temporary treatment process in the management of Walkerton's well water. The ZENON system will be installed on two of the community's wells, while the consulting team examines longer-term alternatives for the community.
"We are very pleased to offer the residents of Walkerton the best available membrane-based water filtration technology," said Andrew Benedek, Chairman and CEO of ZENON Environmental Inc. "ZENON's ultrafiltration system, in combination with chlorine disinfection, is a very effective multi-barrier approach for the treatment of a wide range of microbes including E. Coli."
ZENON's membranes act as a physical barrier filtering out contaminants, parasites and bacteria. They work on the application of slight suction that draws pure water through each thin, hollow fibre membrane strand.
ZENON's containerized ZeeWeed(R) system will treat raw well water to remove turbidity, making the addition of a small amount of chlorine a more effective disinfectant. The new water filtration system can be in place in Walkerton within a matter of days, according to Benedek.
ZENON is a world leader in providing advanced membrane products and services for water purification, wastewater treatment and water reuse. The ZENON group of companies operates from seven locations in North America, six in Europe, and one in each of Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
