Maverick:

Vobis, Micron, Tiny, Cole, Sun, and the HP flash deal, all in the past 2 weeks...Looks like AMD is serious about $5 billion in Y2000 revenues and $7 billion in Y2001 revenues...and to think that the Athy bandwagon hasn't yet really begun to roll...

I've said it before that my biggest fear for AMD is that even aggressive Dresden ramping may not be enough to meet Athy demand in Y2001...The Athy is the best price/performer at all levels and for this reason it is a given that Athy demand is currently exploding as evidenced by the recent new vendor announcements...all kinds of mobile, workstation and server growth potential awaits the Athy arrival in Y2001...Some say the global microprocessor market will reach 200 million units in Y2001...I suspect that the global market is much more aware of the Athy now, after its award winning performance this past year, than one year ago, and as such, a much, much larger portion of this 200 million will be preferring Athys for the simple reason that the Athy is now a proven champion and what's more is an Athy system is less expensive than any comparable system offered by the competition...As if that's not enough, with AMD binsplits currently rumoured to be averaging around 1 gig, about a 300 MHz speed gap on the competition, it won't be long before the entry point becomes 1 gig...and unless the competition is successful in pulling a rabbit out of a hat, and I'm not holding my breath that retail quantities of 1 gig's are imminent, then AMD will have the growing topend for itself...
