To ge to the higher overhead stuff, you have to include things that don't show up in RIMM pricing. That would be stuff like advertising, fancy packaging, etc.

I believe what you're saying is incorrect, but I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. Please clarify.

Having spent 20 years marketing and managing commodity and non-commodity products, I can say that the advertising and other costs for these types of products are spread across all products, not just buried in one or the other.

As for the chips staying in the same company, tell that to Kingston.

Nevertheless, it's easy to solve. Just post a link to a page that provides RDRAM chip-level pricing for 128Mb chips and we can go from there. Otherwise, I'll stick by my numbers (based on your formula) that it's much closer to $7 per chip than Scumbria's estimate of $50 per chip (since he wants a 64M system and thinks it costs $200 more to build).
