there are some stocks, like nt, you can buy at just about any price, if you are really a long term investor; if your real, deliberate plan is, say AT LEAST a 5-year holding. Warren Buffett says: if you buy a stock and are unable to ignore what the market says for 5 years, then you should never have bought it.
conversely there are some stocks, like lu, in which you are never too late to sell. no matter what your loss in lu, if you hold on you will always lose more. lu is headed by a team that has no idea of how to run a photonics company; and when mr. mcginn goes, he'll hand the reins over to another easygoing backslapper. you could keep lu along with your nt, and as nt rises and lu falls you'll maybe break even. you could say you have a balanced portfolio.
