Blisenko, neither you nor I are accountants. None of the news reports I read lead me to believe that the $325 million charge was a result of a loss in speculative derivatives. It puzzled me, but none of the reports were conclusive. Can you point me to one that leads you to believe that this is due to loss in speculative derivatives investments ? If so, I would be concerned. This is not the Microsoft I invested in. As to the paper loss of $2.5b in T, it is not clear that it will really be a loss when it is time to realize it. At that time, it may have looked like a good idea. It may still be a good idea 2 years down the road, I think. I am perplexed as to why T is down so much (I own only 1 share there), the cable opportunities just seem to grand for it to be on a fire sale. But then again, oil was at 13$ a barrel last year, today it is 35! Markets are not perfect and maybe Microsoft couldn't have got a better deal. Time will tell. That investment is troubling, but for different reasons, I think... As to SUNW, I bet you that by next year this time, MSFT would have done better than SUNW here on out... Of course, counting last 5 years, it will be a different story, I must admit. |
