ADI seeks engineers for center in Scotland

LONDON — Analog Devices Inc. (Norwood, Mass.) is searching for engineers to work at a new design center in Edinburgh, Scotland, yet may have overlooked subsidies to open the facility from the regional economic development agency. According to recruitment advertisements that have appeared in the U.K., ADI's personnel wish-list includes both digital and analog design engineers, the latter familiar with designing in CMOS and bipolar process technologies. In addition, the company is seeking layout specialists and CAD systems experts to maintain an EDA tool chain. The company is also advertising for a design center manager.
Although ADI declined to comment on its plans, it appears that the company is seeking initially to recruit six to 12 engineers.
It is not clear what is driving the move in Scotland. However, according to sources, the center will be located in Edinburgh, where ADI has a software development center. Edinburgh Portable Compilers Ltd. was acquired by ADI early in 1999 and operated since then as a wholly owned subsidiary. A source at Edinburgh Portable Compilers (EPC) said the hardware engineers ADI is seeking would not work at the EPC site and that there are plans for a separate hardware design center.
A source close to Scottish Enterprise, the regional development agency, said the agency has not been approached about ADI's plans and that the company was apparently not seeking funding, though money would be available for any overseas company
