Actually some of the MM firms are the specialists who buy/sell the options. Even firms like ML buys and sells options. I do not think the big boys do any kind of hedges seeing the looses they incur duing the large volatile swings, I think they make up the losses in volume. Suckering in the guy who buys a few to pay off the firms that really do the manipulating.
