Hi Cos,
I am leaping into the middle of this without fully informing myself on the topic. Happened to see the term mental illness and the quotes of Solon on the cost and prevalence of the disease in our society. It reminded me of an interview I had read with Thomas Szazz on his extremely controversial book, The Myth of Mental Illness. He has a refreshing and unique viewpoint viewpoint on psychoanalysis and mental illness, stating that classifying actions, thoughts, feelings leads to state sponsored control, and that we are in the middle of an invasive therapeutic environment.

I happened to write down a quote from the interview, meaning to get hold of the book, which I haven't- just hope what I've said is remembered accurately!

Mental illness is a myth whose function is to disguise and thus render more palatable the bitter pill of moral conflict in human relations.

The discussion of Martin Luther a case in point?
