As of this evening, the three companies mentioned read Peter Principle GerASSi's post on this thread and have decided to wait a couple years for the AMD SludgeHumpy chip for their next generation servers.<<


Maybe what IBM, HP and Compaq will do is to carry all the development through until it's time to plug in the CPU chips. Then, they'll simply build a converter card for the CPU chip, jury rig the chipset, change all the firmware, drivers, BIOSs and the operating systems and drop those Dredgehopper chips right in. Piece of cake!
