PRI Automation's Doug Scott Honored With Prestigious SEMI North American Award
Pioneering Work in Factory Integration Systems Leads to First Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Software
BILLERICA, Mass., Sept. 28 /CNW/ -- PRI Automation, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRIA - news), the global leader in advanced automation systems and software to the semiconductor industry, today announced that Doug Scott, vice president of strategic marketing, was honored by Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) with its 2000 SEMI North American Award for development of critical factory integration systems. John DeBolt, Scott's partner in the project, was also honored with the award.
The SEMI organization cited the breakthrough work on factory integration systems that Scott and DeBolt completed while working on the development of manufacturing process software. Scott, who at the time worked for IP Sharp, a Canadian software company, led the software implementation development team. The factory integration software developed and implemented by DeBolt and Scott was PROMIS, the industry's first commercial MES, and Scott led the management buy-out which created Promis Systems Inc. Promis Systems Inc. established itself as one of the leading suppliers of MES software solutions to the semiconductor industry and was acquired by PRI Automation in 1999. Scott continues his work with PRI Automation, focusing on integrated factory management software solutions to increase overall productivity in 300mm fabs.

"I am honored that SEMI is recognizing the significant contribution that MES solutions have played in helping today's fabs manage the complexities of the manufacturing process," stated Doug Scott. "Semiconductor manufacturing is the most complex manufacturing environment in the world and factory integration software solutions will continue to play an even more important role as the industry moves to 300mm manufacturing."

"It is hard to imagine today's chip manufacturing process without the process integration breakthroughs of DeBolt and Scott," said SEMI President Stanley T. Myers. "The information age would not be possible without the foresight and persistence of these gentlemen and the precision processes and system efficiencies that their innovations made possible."

The SEMI Award for North America, which has been presented annually since 1979, honors individuals who have significant technical contributions to the semiconductor industry. Nominations are accepted from individuals of North American-based member companies of the global semiconductor equipment and materials industry association. A distinguished committee of industry executives, many of them previous SEMI Award winners, makes the selection of the SEMI Award recipients.
